Ingredients
  

For the Grilled Beef
  • 400 g lean beef steak sirloin or rump
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
For the Cauliflower Mash
  • 1 medium cauliflower about 600 g, cut into florets
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter or olive oil
  • 50 ml skimmed milk or plant-based milk
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic optional
Optional Garnish
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • 1 tsp lemon juice optional

Equipment

  • 1 Grill pan or barbecue
  • 1 Large saucepan for boiling cauliflower
  • 1 Colander for draining
  • 1 Blender or food processor for mash
  • 1 Sharp Knife for slicing beef
  • 1 Chopping board
  • 1 Tongs or spatula for turning steak
  • 1 Mixing spoon or spatula

Method
 

Step 1: Prepare the Beef
  1. Remove the beef from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Rub the steak with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Step 2: Cook the Cauliflower
  1. Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the cauliflower florets and cook for 8–10 minutes until tender.
  3. Drain well using a colander and set aside.
Step 3: Grill the Beef
  1. Preheat a grill pan or barbecue over medium-high heat.
  2. Place the steak on the hot grill and cook for 3–5 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.
  3. Remove the beef and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Step 4: Make the Cauliflower Mash
  1. Transfer the cooked cauliflower to a blender or food processor.
  2. Add butter (or olive oil), milk, salt, pepper, and optional garlic.
  3. Blend until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step 5: Assemble and Serve
  1. Slice the rested beef against the grain into thin strips.
  2. Spoon cauliflower mash onto plates.
  3. Add the grilled beef on top or alongside.
  4. Garnish with parsley, Parmesan, or lemon juice if desired. Serve immediately.
